The San Jose Mercury News reports today that EPA Administrator Stephen Johnson told Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger that the agency will decide whether or not to grant California's long-pending waiver request by the end of this year. The decision will determine whether California's law limiting global warming pollution from tailpipes will go into effect or not, not just in California but in the dozen states that have adopted the law.
Governor Schwarzenegger replied, in essence, "Thanks, but we're still going to sue you in October." The state of California has put EPA on notice that it will sue October 22nd if EPA hasn't done more to act on the request.
