The Center for Biological Diversity, the Sierra Club, and the San Bernardino Valley Audubon Society have filed a lawsuit challenging San Bernardino County's comprehensive growth plan for failing to address the impact of growth on global warming, according to the San Bernardino Press Enterprise.
The plan provides for county growth through 2030. The complaint asserts that the plan violates the California Environmental Quality Act, which requires an analysis of the plan's environmental impacts.
When apprised of the suit, County officials defended the plan as reasonable and expressed confidence it will withstand legal attack. But according to Jonathan Evans, an attorney for the plaintiffs, the county ignored repeated requests to consider the plan's impact on climate change: "The county sticks its head in the sand and fails to address the most important issue of our generation."
