No Self-Esteem

Ironically enough, just as the auto industry was going forward with an appeal of Judge Sessions' ruling in Vermont, the editors of the New Haven Register were discovering the importance of his opinon. There's nothing here that hasn't been said before, but anyone looking for a good rundown of where things stand regarding the repeated rejection of automakers' claims, legally and otherwise, ought to take a look:

The judge showed an optimism in the U.S. auto industry that we wish Detroit shared. "It is improbable," he said, "that an industry that prides itself on its modernity, flexibility and innovativeness will be unable to meet the requirements of the (greenhouse gas) regulation, especially with the range of technological possibilities and alternatives currently before it."

Sessions was trying to give the industry a wake-up call to a reality that even its own actions have implicitly recognized. It's a shame they've decided to sleep in.
